Frequently Asked Questions
Is Empowered Movement a competition studio?
No. We are a non-competitive dance studio. Our focus is on building confidence, self-esteem, and a love of movement in a fun, nurturing space. We do, however, have a Performance Team, where dancers have the opportunity to perform for the community at events such as our annual Trunk-Or-Treat event, the Barrington Tree Lighting, and more!
What ages do you teach?
We offer classes for infants (with their adult) all the way through teens, plus adult movement classes for people with little to no dance experience. Open Play is for children ages 6 months to 5 years.
How do I try a class?
Your first class is free! Fill out the form on our Free Trial Class page with the class you're interested in (and the dancer's age), and we'll reach out to get you scheduled.
Do parents stay in the room for the little ones' classes?
Our lobby is just outside our dance studio with great views into class. While we encourage dancers to move in class independently from their parents starting in our Creative Movement classes (ages 2-3), we understand our youngest dancers sometimes need a little extra encouragement from parents. Once dancers reach the Mini Movers level (ages 4-5), we have just the dancers and teachers in the room during class. If there are special circumstances, please speak with Miss Jordan directly so we can work with you to make sure your child is set up for success.
What should dancers wear?
There's no strict dress code. Wear what you are comfortable moving in. Please avoid denim and very baggy clothing, since both get in the way. Footwear is class specific, but bare feet work perfectly for your first few weeks.
Where do I park?
We have a parking lot right next to our building with more than enough spaces. You'll find us at 464 Maple Ave. #6, Barrington, RI 02806.
How does Open Play work?
Open Play is non-structured play time where children ages 6 months to 5 years can explore kinesthetic and soft play toys and structures. A signed waiver is required. Check our schedule page for Open Play times.
How does tuition work?
Monthly tuition is due on the 1st of each month and can be paid online or in the studio (cash, check, credit/debit). A $10 late fee applies after the 10th. To withdraw, please give notice by the 15th of the month to avoid the next month's charge.
Do you have recitals?
Yes! We hold a Spring Dance Recital each May and an informal Winter Showcase in December.
